The history of the Caravelair myth

From its beginnings in French aviation to its evolution into the caravan world, Caravelair invites you to discover its rich heritage. A history punctuated by product and technology innovations that have marked its path.
1961

From aviation to caravan

Sud Aviation, a French aeronautical manufacturer, diversifies into the caravan sector and creates the S.E.M.M. (Société européenne de matériel mobile) in Trignac, in western France.

They sent a team to the United States to study the forms and production techniques that have proven their effectiveness, hence the very American style of the logo and its first models. Known to the general public for its best-selling aircraft "Caravelle", it is natural that the caravan takes the name CARAVELAIR.

1962

ALOUETTE : FIRST GREAT SUCCESS

Riding on the success of the Alouette helicopter, Caravelair reuses the name and presents two caravan models in October 1962. It is an immediate success.
The Alouette will quickly become an iconic line that will see its offer enriched over the years. An advertisement already praises the weight of CARAVELAIR, as light as its price...

1968

INNOVATION, ALWAYS

CARAVELAIR presents the LANGUEDOC, the first caravan with air suspension.
The brand establishes itself as one of the market leaders.

1974

NEW ERA... IN ARDÈCHE!

TRIGANO buys S.E.M.M. and sets up its new factory in Tournon-sur-Rhône in Ardèche (France). Two years later, there are 800 employees and 10,000 CARAVELAIR per year.

1985

MOBILECAR : "BREAKING THE CODES"

While the motorhome market is still elitist due to high prices, CARAVELAIR creates a sensation by offering a caravan that provides the autonomy of a motorhome.

1989

BAMBA : YES TO MODERN INTERIORS!

At a time when velvet fabrics and dark furniture are common, CARAVELAIR revitalizes the market by offering a range with light interiors, bleached wood and contemporary fabrics.

1992

PALMA : THE FIRST LIGHT AND ECONOMICAL CARAVAN

To make the caravan accessible to all budgets, CARAVELAIR invents a light caravan (no need for a powerful car) and cheaper, ideal for summer use.

1997

ODYSSEA : ROUNDED SHAPES AND ELEGANCE AS STANDARD

CARAVELAIR stands out again by replacing the classic rectangular lounges with rounded lounges with contemporary furniture for interior design lovers.

2012

SERENITY : THE LOFT SPIRIT

On the occasion of its 50th anniversary, CARAVELAIR creates a sensation with this caravan that takes up all the codes of living spaces. In addition to its design, SERENITY also stands out with the revolutionary XL Freeze drawer refrigerator, still used today.

2019

IRP : AN EXCLUSIVE TECHNOLOGY

CARAVELAIR takes another step ahead by offering a unique concept, providing better insulation, better resistance, and better protection.

2024

A New Beginning

Innovation distinguishes a leader from a follower, said Steve JOBS... CARAVELAIR has distinguished itself through innovation for decades, that's the only habit we will never change! However, discover our new logo, our new decorations, and even a new body color never seen on the caravan market.
